Hot Dogs were first seen in the late 1800s, at sport and baseball games in the US, and have become a fan-favorite food on sports events since then. Vendors at sports events decided to use slices of bread instead of pockets or gloves to hold the sausages in place while eating. The most common sausage for a hot dog is frankfurters, which were often called dachshund or little dogs by german vendors. Maybe the name hot dogs came from there, but there is no official version.
