Edna Krabappel was a 4th-grade teacher at Springfield Elementary School and like many other teachers there, she had smoked heavily, especially during school hours. Even though Bart was her student, they were close friends somewhere deeply at heart. He nominated her for Teacher of the Year and went to a movie with her when she was depressed.
